In this week’s podcast episode of Your Creative Life, Vanessa chatted to Jennifer Hansen, who is best known to TV audiences as the former co-host of Channel Ten’s 5pm news bulletin in Melbourne alongside Mal Walden. These days Jennifer works in radio as part of Smooth FM’s breakfast show where she reads the news and chats with Mike Perso about all things Melbourne. Oh, and she’s also married (in real life) to a very famous TV doctor *ahem* Dr Karl from Neighbours… swoon!
In between media gigs, Jennifer went back to school to study the Professional Writing and Editing course at RMIT. This helped her complete her first contemporary women’s fiction novel, Making Headlines, a story about a TV reporter who decides to become a newsreader and along the way starts making the headlines instead of reading them.
During the interview, Jennifer spoke about the experience of going back to school to study creative writing, shared her thoughts on what the editing process was like, and gave us a glimpse into how she successfully launched her debut eBook with HarperCollins.
During our intro chat, Vanessa and I also shared some of their favourite writing-related books, thoughts on studying writing and the value of a writing group.
